An approximate transposition of lynvale farm and estate to boston, massachuestts, new england, u.s.a.

I have been wondering how large was my maternal grandfather's farm when it was the largest.  The number that I have come to is 200 acres.

but, how large is 200 acres for real.

I have spent a lot of time walking around boston, so I have a good sense of the distances here now, and I have even mapped out many of my walks to calculate the distances of my walking adventures.  and so I have an even better sense of the distances in boston now.

So, now I spent part of the morning using google maps to calculate 200 acres of land in boston.  how much land would that take up, not just in numbers but also in a practical way of sensing the value and distances of 200 acres of land.

I have transposed, in some ways, my maternal grandfather's farm, lynvale, on to an area of boston.

200 acres.

200 acres is 0.3125 miles squared.  so a box of land with 0.3125 miles at each side of the box, or square.  and so the perimeter of that square is 1.25 miles.  or 2.02 kilometers.
